Ted Douglass was born on April 17, 1925 in Kennington, London where he lived until he was 14. The family then moved to Brixton. Ted joined the local ATC in November 1941 where many of his lasting friendships were formed. In a little under two years he joined the RAF with the recommendation from his ATC commanding officer that he be trained for "air crew". He served in the RAF until July 1947 when he was discharged and put on the reserve list. Ted had always been good with numbers and his early jobs led him to train to be an accountant. He married Joan in August 1948. They had one son, Peter, born in December 1951. He saw Peter marry Jill in August 1979, who gave him two grandchildren, Jenny & Simon, born in 1982 & 1985 respectively. Ted retired from work on his 65th birthday in 1990.
